A fine 19th-Century lacquered-brass surveying level,
signed on the 17 3/8in. (44.1cm.) long telescope body-tube Cooke, Troughton & Simms Ltd LONDON & YORK, and stamped on the other side COOKE'S REVERSIBLE LEVEL, with rack and pinion focusing, sleeve over the object lens calibrated on one section 10-0-20, and two bubble levels, the horizontal plate stamped 31580, with glazed compass with silvered cricle graduated 0-360° and cross bar labelled N and S, with jewelled cap and clamp and prism magnifier, on concave triform base with three screw feet and table stand, with tripod or staff mounting in the centre -- 8½in. (21.5cm.) high
