A rare and unusual pair of [?]18th-Century silver umbilical cord tweezers,
unsigned, the tweezers in the form of the beak of a pelican, the body opening to reveal a baby in swaddling clothes in the exposed recess, the bird standing on pierced floral decoration and the finger loops, one supported on the back of a small tortoise to enable the tweezers to be stood upright on a flat surface -- 4¼in. (10.8cm.) high
