A Continental ivory, coquilla nut mounted soft wood bust chess set, late 19th century
The natural side depicting a king in Renaissance style armour and a queen in early 19th century style dress wearing a plummed crown, the bishops as courtiers, the pawns in bowler hats, the opposing side carved to possibly represent the Sudanese, the royals wearing feathered crowns, all inset with glass eyes, mountd on turned baluster bases
