Lot Essay

The Cartier Crash that was initially released in very few numbers by Cartier of London in the late 1960's. The unusual case design is immediately reminiscent of the familiar paintings of Salvador Dali.

During the 1970's and 1980's, clients were able to special order the Crash through Cartier of London. The hallmarks on the present lot date the watch to 1988.

A similar watch is illustrated in Le Temps de Cartier by Jader Barracca, Giampiero Negretti and Franco Nencini, 1st edition, p.295.
