Lot Essay

Moss discusses a small group of Yongzheng-marked Beijing enamel wares, By Imperial Command, p. 47, and illustrates several examples, pls. 17-20. One of the innovations appearing during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng was 'the use of wrought and gilded metal details' seen on the cover, handle and finial of the present lot.

Compare also the example from the Stephen Junkunc III collection, sold in our New York Rooms, 19 September 1996, lot 402, where the handle, spout, rims and finial are treated in the same manner. A Qianlong example from the National Palace Museum is illustrated in Enamel Ware in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, p. 263, fig. 142.
