Carved from a large pebble as a ferocious qilin with dragonlike face and horned head, lying recumbent and looking back while holding a sprig of lingzhi fungus in its mouth, the shoulders with wings, the bushy tail and hind quarters worked from a partially calcified inclusion, the remainder of even grey-green tone, wood base
7½ in. (19 cm.) long
