An almost identical dish is illustrated by N. de Castro, Chinese Porcelain and the Heraldry of the Empire, 1988, p.229, where the author attributes the arms to John Jacob da Costa, a doctor, and dates the service to circa 1850. However, it is possible that this service is a little later in date, and in view of the knight's helm apparently shown with the arms, it may possibly have been made for Sir Michael Costa (1814-84), a composer who becme Director of Covent Garden, London in 1846 and was knighted in 1869. A part dinner service was sold in our New York Rooms, 15 October 1986, lot 195.
