ARIOSTO, Lodovico (1474-1533). La Lena, comedia, [Venice, c. 1535]. 8° (150 x 100mm.), large woodcut portrait of Ariosto on title, in a modern binding of earlier vellum. One of the earliest editions of Ariosto's popular comedy. The portrait of Ariosto is a copy of one in Rossi's 1532 edition of Orlando Furioso, which in turn is a copy of Titian's portrait of the author. Alvise Torti printed the present block in his 21 March 1535 edition of Orlando Furioso.
