NIGER, Franciscus. Contio in D. Herculis. [Ferrara: ?Lorenzo Rossi, c.1505].
4° (203 x 145mm). Woodcut architectural border to title, second and final leaves, woodcut portrait of Ercole d'Este I on title, full-page woodcut of a poet crowned with a laural wreath sitting beneath a tree from which is suspended his violo, woodcut white-vine initials. (Small stain on title.) 19th-century vellum, spine lettered in ink. Provenance: T. de Marinis -- Charles Fairfax-Murray (catalogue, no.1349, ink no. on front pastedown).
Apparently FIRST EDITION. The full-page woodcut at the end had previously appeared in Lorenzo Rossi's edition of Plutarch (1501). Sander 4977; Coll. de Marinis 128 (this copy).
