4° (205 x 138mm.), text of a4 recto within ornamental woodcut border, full-page woodcut illustration on b1 of an oak tree with an image of Romulus beneath surrounded by emblems of empire, 75 woodcut portraits, with the final blank (lightly spotted) modern red morocco, single gilt border on sides, spine lettered and ruled in gilt; gilt edges. Provenance: several early marginal annotations in ink.
The work, intended for pilgrims and visitors to the Holy City, describes the history of the origins of Rome and its first Kings. The woodcut border and full-page illustration were first used in the 1494 edition. Sander 5021.
