De Blois, 6 double-page plans (margins of frontispiece slightly frayed, b2 with clean short tear, some margins waterstained), contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt in compartments, red morocco lettering-piece (head and tail of spine chipped, joints starting to split, very rubbed, covers with a few old flaws), marbled edges.
FIRST EDITION. Boyle claimed for his treatise the distinction of being the first "Entire Treatise on the Art of War written in our language," and it is undoubtedly a key guide to the state of military arts at the close of the Cromwellian wars. Wing O499.
