DICKENS, Charles (1812-1870). Master Humphrey's Clock, London: Chapman and Hall, 1840-1841. 3 volumes, large 8°, wood-engraved frontispiece to each volume, and 170 wood-engraved illustrations after George Cattermole and Hablot K. Browne (some light marginal spotting and soiling, preface leaf to vol. III restored at margins), bound from the monthly parts in green half morocco for Henry Sotheran, original green wrappers, with front cover design after Cattermole, preserved at rear. Provenance: E.W. Ganderton (book label). This work, containing The Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby Rudge, was also published in 88 weekly numbers, and every fourth or fifth week the textual portion was collected into a single monthly part. With the 6 Christmas numbers for All the Year Round, 1862-1867, all but the first in original blue wrappers (the first number lacking wrappers and with first and leaf detached and frayed); a 3-volume edition of Forster's Life (1872-1874) in green half morocco; and 7 reference works, including the 1932 limited edition of Eckel.
