BRUCE, Peter Henry (1692-1757). Memoirs of Peter Henry Bruce. Esq. A Military officer, in the service of Prussia, Russia, and Great Britain. Containing an Account of his Travels in Germany, Russia, Tartary, Turkey, the West Indies, &c. FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Peter Henry Bruce, a military adventurer, entered the service of Peter the Great of Russia in 1711, and was sent with despatches to Constantinople, which he describes in his Memoirs. The work also includes many interesting anecdotes of Peter the Great and his court during the years 1711 to 1724, and a description of manners and habits of serveral Tartar tribes. Bruce wrote his Memoirs in German, his native language, and translated them into English in 1755.
