A FINE 13MM SYSTEME PAULY BREECHLOADING CENTER-FIRE SINGLE SHOT PISTOL, CIRCA 1812
Sighted swamped octagonal barrel, marked Pauly & Cie a Paris and struck with the barrel maker's marks (Jean Le Clerc), barrel with blued finish (areas of spotting), barrel tilts to open, colour case hardened frame, mounted with button-release and unusual hand-operated cartridge ejector, checkered cocking-lever spur, checkered walnut grip with carved molding around the colour hardened grip cap
9½ inch (24.1 cm.) barrel
Some spotting and flaking to original blued finish, vivid original case colours, grip with some marks
Samuel Johannes (Jean) Pauly, 1766-1821. Developed the first breech-loading metallic cartridge fire-arms of truely modern form. Mechanically well designed, the principle was perhaps too far ahead of its time. Nonetheless, the Pauly System is a highly important developement in fire-arms design.
