A PAIR OF SPANISH COLONIAL BRONZE BOAT CANNONS, EARLY TO MID 18TH CENTURY
The bronze tubes formed with four reinforcing rings, flared muzzle peaked at top to form fore-sight, off-center trunions, tubular cascabels, cast with the Arms of Spain, mounted on recent wood carraiges
Barrels: 34 and 38 inches (86.4 and 96.5 cms.); Bores: 2 and 2½ inches (5 and 6.4 cms.)
According to Texas Collector: Gaines de Graffenried, by Roger N. Conger, these cannons were acquired by Louis Lipsitz, a scrap-metal dealer from Waco, earlier the 1920. They were apparently from a shipment of scrap from South Texas. (2)
