Lot Essay

The present drawing is possibly related to the picture painted in Fermo, a small town in the Marché, between August and September 1601 for the church of Santa Maria del Buon Gesù in Carassai, for which the artist executed a fresco (Ancona, Pinacoteca civica Francesco Podesti, Andrea Lilli nella pittura delle Marche tra Cinquecento e Seicento, 1985, no. 42, illustrated).
