Lot Essay

G. Papi pointed out that the most striking aspect of Commodi's draughtsmanship was his ability to capture very spontaneous poses after the living model, G. Papi, Andrea Commodi, Florence, 1994, p. 154. This naturalistic tendency is noticeable in the present sheet which is stylistically close to figure drawings by Commodi in the Uffizi (inv. 18617 F, 18635 F, 18539 F, Papi, op. cit., figs. 64, 75, 81).
