Lot Essay

Sir Denis Mahon kindly confirmed the attribution on the basis of a photograph and added that it is unlikely that the drawing dates from early in Guercino's career.
Counselor Nourri's collection was auctioned in Paris in 1785 and included 168 paintings, 1,037 drawings, 106 prints and sixteen pieces of sculpture.
