According to Lager 'The Leica 72 made by Ernst Leitz Canada Ltd. was catalogued by E. Leitz, Inc., New York, in 1954 and 1955 under the codeword LKOOM.
The 72 is the only Leica utilizing the 18 x 24mm format and is basically a IIIa or G with a special film gate and viewfinder masking, model f series synchronization and film type reminder in the film advance knob.
The most distinguishing characteristics are the 18 x 24 engraving on the top-plate and the vertical masking of the viewfinder window. Latest research suggests that 150 Canadian 72 cameras were produced at serial numbers 357301-357450.'
