Together 5 pp., 4o and 8o, one with attached address leaf, all in fine condition. 2 April 1822, "On the subject of these causes I spoke to Mrs. (?) at Washington, she informed me that nothing would be done" in a postscript: "I hope Mr. Mills will be forced to the right and think we had better settle the case first". An undated [1822?] letter states: "I have spoken to the Chief Justice on the Subject of Mr. Ely's case - a decision in that case will not take place at present. I think your friend Ely is a little unreasonable in his complaints". 26 September 1850 (to Hon. Mr. Dickinson, U.S. Senate): "I hope you will hearken to no idle objections to the confirmation of Wm. T. Aessell, as Collector of New Bedford, he is an upright and worthy man". (3)
