Venus and Adonis in a wooded Landscape

Hendrick de Clerck and Denis van Alsloot collaborated on a number of occasions, with Alsloot painting the wooded landscapes and de Clerck the staffage. The present work can also be compared to a painting of similar dimensions depicting the Holy Family with the Infant Saint John in a wooded Landscape formerly in the British Rail Pension Fund collection, and subsequently sold at Sotheby's, London, Dec. 7, 1994, lot 23 (£120,000=$186,000).
