Lot Essay

The present work is one of several versions for which the original, dated 1637, is in the Museum Mayer van den Bergh, Antwerp. These include a painting attributed by Vroom to Gerrit Willemsz. Heda, formerly with Richard Green, London (see N.R.A. Vroom, A Modest Message, 1980, II, p. 71, no. 357c).
