Lot Essay

The small crown above the monogram indicates that this fine jug and basin was made for a member of the family of the Khedive of Egypt, rather than for a Turkish patron. A silver dining tray, made for the Khedive Isam'il, similarly marked, was sold in these rooms, 21 June 2000, lot 88.
Similar silver mounted opaline glass is in the Dolmabahce Palace.
