Of typical form with slightly outturned rim, plain except for the initals RS surmounted by a coronet, tughra of Abdul Hamid and sah mark on the interior, light abrasions, one dent

Rafia Sultan, daughter of Sultan Abdul Mecid, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and thence by descent.

Lot Essay

Sultan Abdul Mecid had fourteen daughters. Refia Sultan (1842-1880) married Mahmud Ethem Pasha, the son of Kaptan Derya Mehmet 'Ali Pasha (the Grand Admiral).
