Lot Essay

John Rollé Walter was born in 1713, the son of John Rollé, Member of Parliament for Stevenstone, and his wife Isabella, daughter of Sir William Walter, 2nd Bt. He was educated at New College, Oxford. He asumed the name Walter on inheriting from his Uncle, Sir Robert Walter, 4th Bt., on his death in 1731. In 1750 he also inherited the estates of his brother Henry, Lord Rollé.
