Early 19th century
depicting a Winter archery scene with an elderly dignitary seated on the terrace of a pavilion, flanked by attendants, watching a group of archers before him, a boy attendant standing before a tent beside the target, a castellated pavilion on a rocky outcrop in the background, all set in a tree-strewn, snowy river landscape -- 31½in. x 49¾in. (80cms x 126.5cms).

For a similar composition of the same size and probably by the same hand as the present lot, see C.L Crossman, 'The Decorative Arts of the China Trade', Woodbridge, 1991, p.157, pl. 72. (one of a set of four oils attributed to Fatqua, a folllower of Spoilum, active in the early 19th century).
