Details
A verte Imari armorial dish
Kangxi (1662-1722)
painted in underglaze blue, famille verte and rouge de fer enamels with the arms of Louis XV of France encircled by the Order of St Esprit, within a border of lotus sprays, dishes of fruit and foliage, all within bands of scrolling lotus, the underside with peony sprays -- 15in. (38cms) diam, (rivetted and cracked).
See Illustration.

This dish was part of a large service made for King Louis XV who reigned between 1715 and 1774. Philippe d'Orleans, his grandfather's (Louis XIV) first cousin, acted as Regent for the first eight years of Louis's reign and there is a similar service of this style bearing his arms. In the 19th century Samson of Paris produced numerous copies and a Japanese example can be viewed in our forthcoming sale on June 28th.
Special notice
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
