The first painting is after the ideal portrait of Dante by Gentile Bellini, formerly in the Böhler collection, Munich, dated by Heinemann to the first decade of the sixteenth century (see F. Heinemann, Giovanni Bellini e i Belliniani, III, p. 117, fig. 212).
