Signed Inoue Shinkai and Dated 1675, Early Edo Period
Sugata [configuration]: shinogi-zukuri [longitudinal ridge], chu-kissaki [medium point], iori-mune [shallow peaked back]
Kitae [forging pattern]: itame [wood grain] with rich jinie [hard metal granules over the surface of the blade]
Hamon [tempering pattern]: shallow notare [undulating line], deeper around the monouchi [striking area] with pronounced nie [hard metal granules] and nioi [mist-like crystalline areas], and sunagashi [thick lines of nie]
Boshi [tip]: sugu ni saki komaru togarigokoro [straight temper line with a sharp turnback at the tip]
Nakago [tang]: ubu [unaltered] with sujikai yasurime [diagonal file marks descending to the right], one mekugi-ana [hole for the retaining peg], ha-agari-kurijiri [rounded heel rising sharply on the blade side], signed on one side with a thick chisel Inoue Shinkai marked on the other with a kiku-mon [chrysanthemum crest] and dated Enpo sannen hachigatsu hi [a day in the eighth month of the third year of Enpo (1675)]
Fitted with a two-tier gilt habaki [collar]
Shirasaya [plain wood scabbard] with attestation by Sato Kanzan dated autumn 1976
