A DAISHO-KOSHIRAE [SET OF FITTINGS FOR A KATANA AND WAKIZASHI]
Mid-Edo Period (18th Century)
Comprising: brown lacquered saya [scabbard] decorated in black lacquer with the rindo-guruma mon [bellflower-wheel crest] and other crests of the Arima family; tsuka [hilt] covered in white sharkskin wrapped in black woven silk tapes forming a lozenge pattern; the gilt metal fittings worked with dragon and cloud designs; both fuchi [hilt-collars] signed Shuju (old cracks and wear)
