A FINE DOMARU AND SODE [BODY ARMOUR AND SHOULDER GUARDS]
Momoyama Period (16th Century)
The do [cuirass] of hon kozane [true lamellae] black lacquered and laced in blue, white and red kebiki-odoshi [close lacing], the kusazuri [tassets] in blue, a large agemaki [bow] on the back of the do, large sode [shoulder-guards] tapering slightly towards the top which has a curved kanmuri-no-ita [cap-plate] laced to match the do in bands of blue, white, red and blue, finely mounted overall with soft-metal kanamono [mounts] of karakusa ['Chinese-grass' arabesques] and cranes on shakudo nanako [copper-gold alloy worked with a granulated ground], contained in a black-lacquered tub-shaped armour box
