Late Edo Period (19th Century)
Of typical form, with staggered shelves and cupboards with sliding and hinged doors, covered in rich gold nashiji ['pearskin' lacquer] flakes and decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e and takamaki- e [low- and high-relief lacquer], foil and other techniques, the panels with a mountain landscape of pine and cherry trees by a stream down which float hana-ikada [rafts laden with blossom], the interiors of the cupboards with sparser pine and bamboo designs on a nashiji ground, the borders of the doors with floral designs, the other exterior surfaces with hanabishi-shippo [linked jewel pattern], the silver fittings finely worked with floral motifs
