The present lot was executed after Testas' return from his second expedition to the orient in 1868. The title refers to the artist's sojourn in Senouris, a village situated in the Fayum oasis to the south-west of Cairo. The watercolour depicts Testas himself smoking a cigarette on a stool in the lower right corner and three other fellow artists. Judging by Testas' watercolour of the expedition (see introduction) one could tentatively identify the other sitters as W. de Barthelemy, J.L. Gérome and A. Goupil.
