At the age of 27 he recieved his first art classes at the Haagsche Academie with the help of a scholarschip. Up untill then he had drawn and painted as much as he could in his spare time. Herman Johannes van der Weele (1852-1930) and Francois Pieter ter Meulen (1843-1927) were his tutors. Noordijk also listened to advice from his friend and fellow painter Willem Hamel (1860-1924). Nature was Noordijks greatest source of inspiration. He chose to live in the countryside in the Gooi area, between Laren en Eemnes. It is in these surrounds that he created many of his light and clear polder landscapes (lots 339, 340, 346, 348, 350, 352, 356, 359). Noordijk had his studio in an attic room with a large window that looked out over his much loved garden. Beyond the garden Noordijk would have had a wonderfull view across a wide and flat countryside that stretched as far as the Eemnesserdijk (lots 338, 341,) The dunelandscapes at Blaricum (lot 357), the woods at Okkenbroek and the villages around him were also favourite spots for the artist. Apart from landscapes he also painted animals, especially cows, and portraits, of fishermen (lot 337) and Larensche farmers for example. He took several trips abroad to Spain, France, England and Italy. Again it was the countryside that captured his main interest (lot 351). Noordijk has been described as a painter of still, timeless scenes opting for simplicity and naturalness.
