A LARGE EXPORT LACQUER CHEST
Early Edo Period (Mid-Late 17th Century)
A rectangular chest on a base with scalloped aprons, with a slightly projecting hinged lid, and decorated in gold and coloured hiramaki-e [low-relief lacquer] on a black lacquer ground with cranes, rocks and water plants, gilded metal fittings, some old restoration
24 in. (61 cm.) high; 54 in. (137 cm.) wide; 24¾ in. (63 cm.) deep
