THREE CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL VASES AND ONE PAIR OF CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL VASES
Late Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
The first of elongated ovoid form with a crisp shoulder, the midnight- blue enamel ground worked in partly silvered copper wire and polychrome enamels with cranes and chrysanthemums, applied with a silvered copper rim and base, 9¾in. (24.8cm.) high; the second of elongated ovoid form with a rounded shoulder, the graduated pale blue-grey ground worked in copper wire and polychrome enamels with an egret on the branch of a willow tree, applied with a gilt metal rim and base, the base with a stamped mark, 9½in. (24.2 cm.) high; the third of elongated baluster form with a short neck and a vertical mouth, the black enamel ground worked in silvered wire and polychrome enamels with three Manchurian cranes, the foot with ascending lappet ornament, the sides of the mouth with zigzag ornament, the rim with silvered wire spirals, the base and the interior of the mouth of gilt metal, 9 7/8 in. (24.9cm.); the last a pair of baluster vases of rounded square plan from the same workshop as the previous and with very similar decoration, one with a single bird and the other with two birds, each fitted with a silvered copper rim and foot, 12¼in.
