AN IMPORTANT ART DECO STYLE FLOWER VASE
Signed Masachika, Early Showa Period (Circa 1930)
With chocolate-brown patination, of rectangular plan with gently bowed sides curving slightly outwards from the base towards a band of fleur-de-lys motifs on a stylised wave pattern within wire borders, no footring, signed underneath on the slightly recessed base in semi-cursive characters Masachika saku [made by Masachika]

Lot Essay

Soryo Masachika seems to have exhibited only once at the official Teiten and its pre- and post-war successors, showing a bronze basin with silver inlay in art deco style at the eleventh Teiten in 1930; see Nitten Hensan Iinkai [ed.], Nittenshi [A history of the Nitten exhibition] (Tokyo, 1983), volume 9.
