Momoyama Period (Late 16th Century)
The thirty-two-plate russet-iron bowl with standing rivets each with a fluted washer at the base typical of the work of the Kaga smiths, the five-stage tehen kanamono [finial] and the fukurin [metal edges] on each of the standing plates in gilded copper, the mabisashi [peak] black lacquered and decorated with lacquer dragons, the five-tier russet lacquered iron hineno-jikoro [neck-guard] laced with green kebiki-odoshi [close lacing], both leaf-shaped fukigaeshi [turn-backs] edged with engraved fukurin [edging] and bear a gold-lacquered mon [crest], the underside of the peak red lacquered with the invocation to the war god Hachiman Dai Bosatu in black lacquer
