Mid-Edo Period (18th Century)
A large mask in three sections, the lower half with a broad chin, toothless mouth and odayori no kugi [cord-assisting hooks] beneath the chin, the nose with turning pins, the brow-plate attached to the lower half by hinges embossed with eyebrows and wrinkles and pierced with small eye holes, signed Masatsugu, the four-tier black-lacquered iron yodarekake [throat defence] hinged down the centre and laced in dark green sugake-odoshi [spaced lacing]
