Lot Essay

It has been suggested that the present watercolour depicts Morcambe sands exposed at low tide, facing inland. The promontary to the right of the picture may easily be Holme Island and the hills to the left Grizedale Forest, the high land between Coniston and Windemere.
We are grateful to John Ellis for his help preparing this catalogue entry.
