Quai de la Poterie à Bruges, executed during Herbin's most daringly fauve period, was subsequently exhibited at two highly important shows of contemporary art, namely the Manet & the Post-Impressionists exhibition in London in 1910, and then the first Galerie der Sturm show of Der Blaue Reiter in the spring of 1912. The London exhibition, staged at the Grafton Galleries, was instrumental in introducing Britain to the prevailing currents in French avant-garde art, from the improvisitory experiments in depicting modern life of Manet and the first Impressionist generation, via the pointillist and fauve adventures, through to the hermetic explorations of Picasso's analytical Cubism.
