The Descent from the Cross by Torchlight (B., Holl. 83; H. 280)
etching with drypoint, 1654, a fine, early impression, with considerable selectively wiped surface tone, the upper plate edge inky, with burr on the jacket of the man holding Christ's body, that of the man pulling the shroud, and to Christ's beard, on a sheet of silvery Chine, with narrow margins on three sides, with a thread margin at the top, just touching the subject at one point, two tiny surface losses to the shadowy figure top left, in remarkably good unwashed, unpressed condition
