A RARE .22 U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL OF 1922 GALLERY PRACTICE RIFLE, NO. 1130 FOR 1922
Sighted barrel marked SA 9-22, action marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD/MODEL OF 1922/CAL.22/1130, mounted with Lyman NRA 48-B micrometer rear sight with short bar, correct Model of 1922 bolt (not modified to MI or MII configuration), receiver is not drilled and tapped as most Model of 1922 were modified to scope mounted configuration, rare finger groove walnut stock with plain service rifle butt-plate with trap (stock does not have trap-hole)
24 inch (61 cm.) barrel
With some areas of minor spotting on barrel and some insignificant staining to arsenal polished surfaces such as bolt and rear sight elevation bar. Stock with small chip behind receiver tang, otherwise with much original finish and condition throughout.
Approximately 2020 Model of 1922 gallery pratice rifles were built from 1922-1924. Most were modified to MI or MII (M2) configuration. Remaining un-modified rifles are rare. See Brophy, The Springfield 1903 Rifles, pages 271-308 for a discussion of these rifles.
