A Nagasaki four-case lacquer inro and cover
Edo Period
decorated in gold and silver hiramakie and takamakie and spinkled aogai to both sides, with a bridge before figures, buildings, trees and a mountainous landscape, the reverse with further pagodas among trees and before mountainous landscapes; the shoulders, top and bottom surfaces decorated with two scrolls, a mallet, a hat, a flame and concentric shapes on geometric grounds; compartments decorated in a nashiji ground; hako netsuke and ojime decorated in the same techiques, unsigned -- 4in. (10.2cm.) long, (the inro with very minor losses to decoration).
