A Shibayama style lacquer box
Meiji Period
of quatrefoil shape, decorated in mother-of-pearl, ivory, coral and horn with a cockatoo perched on a screen decorated with stylised flowerheads, with two attached vases issuing blossoming branches, a ewer, a vase and chrysanthemum sprays in front, the sides applied with cloisonne enamel roundels decorated in coloured enamels with foliate sprays, the interior with fitted lacquer tray decorated in gold hiramakie with a phoenix and scrolling foliage, nashiji ground underside, white metal mounts -- 6½in. (16.5cm.) long, (very minor damages).
