Two similar Satsuma ovoid vases
Meiji Period
one painted and gilt with a continuous scene of numerous ladies seated and standing playing samisen, performing the tea ceremony and reading, the other depicting a gathering of numerous figures including warriors, tradesmen, ladies and children, each vase with a shaped moulded collar decorated with scattered flowers, all on a blue ground and with a band of geometric patterns to the foot -- 9in. (25cm.) high, signed and with gilt mon.
