The present work is part of the Chicken Noodle soup series of 1985. Warhol's use of consumer items and popular brands is legendary, and Chicken Noodle Soup is a striking example of how well Warhol was able to make an art out of quotidien objects by projecting the brand without emotion or narrative. He had an intuitive ability to perceive the pervasiveness of the post-war consumer society. As D. Bourdon commented:
"Andy always zeroed in on the most familiar and instantly recognizable subjects. Just as he had chosen to paint Superman and Dick Tracy because they were headliners in their field, he decided to depict Coca Cola and Campbell's Soup, the two leading products in their markets". (D.
