Lot Essay

The softness of the chasing and casting of these distinctive wall-lights points to a possible Italian origin. Designs for similar ribbon-tied wall-lights by the celebrated designer Giovanni Battista Piranesi are illustrated in A. González-Palacios, Il Tempio del Gusto: Roma e il Regno delle Due Sicilie, Milan, 1984, vol. II, p. 123, fig. 263.
