Jean Chrysostome Stumpff, maître in 1766.
Established in rue Saint-Nicolas, where he is recorded to have remained all his working life, Jean Stumpff worked particularly in the Louis XV and transitional styles, and is particularly known for his trompe-l'oeil parquetry found on his late Louis XV pieces.
A virtually identical gueridon by Stumpff, with only some minor variations to the marquetry and with additional corner mounts, is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 828.
