Of arc-en-arbalette form, the waved, eared moulded Sarrancolin marble top above three short drawers and two long drawers, mounted with foliate handles and rockwork escutcheons, above a waved apron mounted conformingly, the sides inlaid with quarter-veneered panels, on foliate rockwork feet, the marble restored

Lot Essay

The stamp 'F.G.' was used by an thusfar unrecoded ébéniste of the Regence period. A group of commodes by him are are known which all share the same arc-en-arbalète form and a number of the gilt-bronze mounts. A closely related commode was offered at Tajan, Paris, 12 December 1995, lot 207 and a further related commode was offered at Tajan, Paris, 23 June 1994, lot 45.
